Wire Springs Technical Information
Compression Spring
A compression spring is a wire spring shaped into a helix with a consistent diameter. It gives off increasing resistance as force is applied to its ends. Useful in an array of industrial settings, this wire spring is most often formed with round wire. Its power comes from compression, hence the name compression spring, and is widely used in the industrial world. You can find compression springs commercially in spring form matresses and pogo sticks. Automated Wire Products produces compression springs for industrial hydraulics.
Extension Springs
Extension springs function on the same principal as compression springs, only working the opposite on. Extension spring expand with the stress of two objects moving apart. As it expands, the resistance it offers increases. At some point, the amount of force pulling the spring apart will either succumb to the resistance of the spring, or stretch it past its natural limits. If that happens, the spring can no longer perform to original specifications. For that reason, most extension springs come with strict tolerances which should not be exceeded. Extension springs usually are formed with smaller gauge wire than compression, and serve different functions. You can find extension springs in everyday products like screen doors, staplers and trampolines.
Torsion Springs
Torsion springs take advantage of energy stored through bending. Coiled tightly, normally torsion springs have ends that are rotated to deflect an angle. This means that they're ideal for use exerting energy in a rotative path. Clothes pins take advantage of torsion spring energy to open outward on both ends. Friction can be an issue in torsion spring design because of the way in which coils rub laterally from energy applied to the ends in differing directions.
Automated Wire Springs
Automated Wire Products, Inc. has been in business for ten years developing the way in which we approach the wire spring industry. We've focused our energy to the niche production of compression springs for the hydraulic valve industry. Our efficiency and client base grow every year. If your company utilizes hydraulic systems anywhere in its production, chances are we'll be able to fill its compression spring needs. Our on time delivery is second to none at Automated Wire Products. Contact us for information on designing and ordering your wire spring. If you've ordered before, or know the specifications of the spring you need, submit a spring quote request.
