Coil Spring Information
Coil Spring Materials
Coil springs are made of a material, usually a maleable metal, that exerts usable amounts of energy on the world around it through give and resistance. Stainless steel is a good example. It is cost effective enough to form into the helical shape that coil springs use, and pushes back in usable amounts. For example, a coil spring is in used the mechanism that closes screen doors: exerting force sufficient to close the door, but insufficient to break it off. The 'push' is energy transfered to the spring from outside forces, sometimes human, sometimes mechanical. Coil springs store energy applied to them and then return that energy in productive ways.
Why Coil Springs?
Coil Springs fit easily into daily life because they give back only the energy that is applied to them. They're shape and size are dictated only by imagination, but they're usually constructed to fit a useful application. Physically, the storage of potential energy in a small space is an efficient way to manipulate machinery. Coil springs are ideal, then, for a wide range of mechanical uses because they can store a relatively large amount of potential energy in a small space. The spring structure can also be manipulated to exert force in diverse directions and angles. Extension springs exert force inward when stretched. Compression springs, the type the Automated Wire Products, Inc. specializes in, exert force outward when compressed. Torsion Springs exert force on a consistent angle when opposite force is applied.
Coil Springs at Automated Wire
Automated Wire Products, Inc. produces the compression spring variety of coil springs. This is one small area of industrial spring production. We've focused on this particular coil spring because customers appreciate the quality that specialization affords. The Engineers who design and oversee manufacturing at Automated Wire are familiar with more than just this one spring and the physical laws that dictate the performance of all coils springs. However, they work exclusively on the development of compression springs, ideals production materials and optimal design specifications.
